Classes

South Table Mountain Preschool’s classes are conducted in a safe, loving, Christian environment and designed to develop the whole child’s spiritual, socio-emotional, cognitive, and physical needs. We offer educational programs for 4 age groups:

  • Preschool for 2½ to 3-year-olds
  • Preschool for 3- to 4-year-olds
  • Pre-Kindergarten for 4- to 5-year-olds
  • Junior Kindergarten for 5- to 6- year-olds

Preschool

Our preschool program integrates literacy skills through play- and theme-based curriculum. Children learn the alphabet and how to express themselves verbally, with an emphasis on conversation and phonetics. Introduction to and exploration of math, science, and social studies is based on developmentally appropriate activities. Other activities help develop happy, confident learners—children who have fun while they sing, dance, talk, rhyme, write, create, and explore. Social skills are enhanced, emphasizing the importance of positive behavior toward others, and spiritual learning is cultivated with songs, Bible stories, and loving others just as Jesus did.

Pre-Kindergarten

Our pre-kindergarten program stretches children’s understanding of language, phonics, and math, while encouraging exploration and discovery through art, nature, science, social studies, music, and movement. We accomplish this through a play- and theme-based curriculum, where children learn to take turns, solve problems, respect differences, and resolve conflicts as they prepare for elementary school. The program also establishes a foundation of reverence for biblical principles and love for Jesus. Prayer, Bible stories, and life principles of love and respect for one another are integrated into our curriculum.

Junior Kindergarten

Our junior kindergarten program is for children whose family feels their child is not quite ready to move to kindergarten. Sometimes children just need a little more time to grow and develop. Additional time allows children to continue to develop and build on skills emphasized in pre-kindergarten. Children also benefit by further developing their ability to focus for longer periods of time, growing in their social/emotional skills, by being better able to navigate social situations and advocate for themselves, having more confidence in talking to their teachers and asking for help, and being older vs. younger as they continue in school. This is a personal decision for families. Our teachers are here to support you and your student in this process.

Special Enrichments

Chapel
We meet in the Worship Center upstairs for all students to participate together in a fun time of learning about God and singing with Jane Jebsen, Missional Pastor, of Faith Lutheran Church.

Gymnastics
Coach Stan, of Stan’s Tiny Tumblers, brings the gym to STMP! Each month Coach Stan drives his converted school bus to the parking lot of STMP. The bus is equipped with preschool-sized equipment. Children get to use the monkey bars, balance beam, climbing wall, rings, zip-line, and many other fun things while learning new skills in an age-appropriate manner.

Storyteller
Volunteers from our community visit us to read fun book selections. Children love having guests in their classrooms and it’s beneficial for them to hear books read by a variety of people as they each bring stories to life with own personalities.

Music
Music is a hands-on experience where children get to play with a variety of instruments like shakers, bells, and waffle blocks. Singing, dancing or a daily poem is incorporated into group time each day.

Art
Students engage in a variety of art activities within their classrooms each day, where they get to explore their own creativity with the day’s art theme. Parents and visitors to STMP get to see art created by our students displayed in our hallways.
